Nearby. On Dec. 6, 1985, Halifax Explosion survivor Millicent Upham Swindells and her grand-daughter, Anne Louise Ihasz, placed a time capsule in the recently completed Halifax Explosion Memorial Bell Tower.
Funds came from all levels of government, and the Memorial Bells Committee generated many donations and interest from the community. Hundreds of individuals and organizations donated to the construction of the Memorial Bell Tower. The list of contents also mentions a 1985 coin, however one was not found in the container. The contents had been selected by the Halifax Explosion Memorial Bells Committee. Many of the northern parts of Halifax and Dartmouth were devastated. From the bell tower one may see the spot where the explosion occurred and much of the area which was devastated.

An extensive comparison of 130 major explosions by Halifax historian Jay White in 1994 concluded that it "remains unchallenged in overall magnitude as long as five criteria are considered together: number of casualties, force of blast, radius of devastation, quantity of explosive material, and total value of property destroyed." For the 100th anniversary of the Halifax Explosion in 2017, Anne Louise (Ihasz) Desrosiers returned to assist with the opening of the time capsule. C.J. Some examples include Janet Kitz hosted a documentary on the history of the Memorial Bells Tower, which aired on Channel 10 in June and September 1984. The tower originally held a carillon of ten bells, to which four more were added in 1990. Why is the municipality making improvements to the park now? Every year on December 6th, people gather in the park to hear the ringing of the memorial bells, and to remember the victims of the disaster.
