There's nothing gratuitously titillating or salacious here, nothing that falls into the category "things I wish ILoved this book -- it was exactly what I was hoping for: a volume that would take all the well-known Sondheim facts and anecdotes and put them in a richly detailed comprehensive context. However, the book is tedious to get through and we really don't understand how or why Sondheim does what he does so well.This is a clunky, difficult to read biography of one of the world's great lyricists and composers, who has a lifetime achievement Tony Award (along with collaborator Hal Prince) and who is responsible for making me love the song "Finishing the Hat."
