Our stud started in 1987 when brothers Peter and Arthur Laurenson bought our first ponies, Greig of Sumburgh and Lucky Sue, at the local auctions here in Shetland. I also bred my first mushroom pony in 2019.Our ponies get lots of attention and are worked with regularly which, I believe, is evident as they are all friendly and easy to handle. The natural environment and grazing is ideally suited to the breeding and management of native ponies. I am achieving this but, in the process, realise that I must like a particular type of pony as much of my stock goes back to Berry, Kerswell, Mousa, Tawna and Fairy.I started breeding chestnuts but have diversified and now have a variety of other colours including bay, skewbald and roan. The Halstock & Blackertor studs are breeders of Miniature & Standard Shetland ponies here at Lower Halstock Farm, Okehampton on the edge of Dartmoor National Park.
