In 2007 the District entered into a service agreement with the Fresno City Fire Department for fire protection. Prior to retirement Mr. Leach worked as an over-the-road truck driver for 25 years and worked in the industry focused on safety for over 40 years. Karen is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and in her early California career served as a Flight Nurse in the U.S. Military, Public Health nurse for San Bernardino County, nurse practitioner at Patton State Hospital and in Sacramento as a personnel analyst. In 1990, he retired from Rural Metro, Sun City West’s original fire department, as a Captain. Later in 1980, Board Member Smith joined the Rural Metro Fire Department.
